The Moroccan healthcare system is mainly based on the AMO (Compulsory Health Insurance), which covers up to 80% of public medical expenses on average. The remaining 20% can be covered by private insurance.

However, this system has its limitations. The quality of care provided by the AMO varies from region to region, the public sector is often understaffed and waiting times can be long.

This is why many people choose to seek treatment in the private sector, even if the prices are higher.

To ensure optimal coverage, many expatriates take out private international health insurance. Foyer Global Health specialises in insurance for expatriates and offers coverage that is:

  • Valid in Morocco, in your country of origin and anywhere in the world
  • With rapid access to care
  • Allowing you to choose where you receive treatment
  • Covering emergency repatriation

We also offer wellness services specially designed for expatriates, such as the ‘Get Fit’ programme to help you stay in shape, or the support of a mental health coach. Because moving abroad also means dealing with a whole range of emotions!

Education

The cost of a private nursery school in Morocco is around 1,000 MAD (95 EUR) per month. For an international primary school, you should budget around MAD 31,800 (€2,700) per year.

Several schools offer high-quality education at varying rates:

Tuition fees for the Lycée Français International Louis-Massignon in Casablanca:

  • Nursery: MAD 30,680 (€2,900)
  • Elementary: MAD 35,000 (€3,320)
  • Middle school: MAD 40,138 (€3,800)
  • High school: MAD 48,723 (€4,620)

Tuition fees for the British International School in Marrakech:

  • Secondary school: MAD 83,800 (€7,920)

Leisure and activities

It goes without saying that a lifetime would not be enough to discover all the wonders that Morocco has to offer. There are numerous historical sites and plenty of activities in the city for young and old alike.

Here are a few must-see attractions and their prices:

  • Visit the Bahia Palace in Marrakech: MAD 30 (€2.85) for adult residents and MAD 10 (€0.95) for children.

Cost of Living in Morocco Compared to the United Kingdom

The cost of living in Morocco is over 60% lower than in living the United Kingdom. While a single person can live comfortably in Morocco on approximately €700 per month (including rent), the average monthly expenses in the UK are around €1,900.

Housing is one of the biggest differences: renting a one-bedroom apartment in a city center costs around €320 in Morocco, compared to €1,000 or more in major UK cities like London, Manchester, or Edinburgh. Transportation, dining out, and leisure activities are also significantly more expensive in the UK.

However, salaries in the UK are considerably higher. The average net monthly income is approximately €2,800, while in Morocco it’s around €1,800. This results in a substantially higher purchasing power for most people living in the UK — nearly double that of Morocco.

Cost of living in Morocco compared to Canada

Life in Morocco is on average half the price of life in Canada. The cost of housing is particularly different, with Moroccan rents up to 70% lower than those in Canada.
